And regarding the illness, why is it that when an AKB girl gets sick, she doesn't automatically get kicked out of the group if what you're saying is true? Really, that opinion is awfully extreme and as rabid as fans can be I can't see it happening unless you can cite an example.

It took Namie +- 7 years to recover from her pregnancy~marriage~divorce... When you go from the biggest popstar in the country to almost nobody and take 7 years to be relevant again (and +-10 years to go back on the top), you did something terrible to the public eyes. People buying her stuff nowadays most likelly don't even really remember her scandal because they were way too young for it.
Ayumi was considered to be one of the most undesireble people as a spokeperson after getting deaf, and the reason was her deafness. I believe this is a very good example of it having a bad impact on her career. It could raise the interest on if people took the "wow, she is a fighter!" road, but this never happened.
Believing Ayu is doing everything that actually ruins her image to the public trying to do publicity stunts is not very clever IMO.
