Ayumi was considered to be one of the most undesireble people as a spokeperson after getting deaf, and the reason was her deafness. I believe this is a very good example of it having a bad impact on her career. It could raise the interest on if people took the "wow, she is a fighter!" road, but this never happened.
Believing Ayu is doing everything that actually ruins her image to the public trying to do publicity stunts is not very clever IMO.

I thought we were talking about fans' opinions and popularity, not desirability as a spokesperson for a brand. Those two aren't exactly the same thing. Anyhow I remember a corporate survey about popstars favourability as a spokesperson stated the reason many companies not desiring Ayumi as a spokesperson was the size of her entourage not her deafness.
And not being able to back up any of arguments isn't very clever either lol
