I think if Crystal wanted to go overseas, she probably could. But in reality, the overseas market is much more difficult to succeed in.
I mean, does anyone remember Amerie? She was, in my opinion, -very- similar to Crystal. She was even Korean and African-American mix. But after very limited success, she's basically off the map now.
She still has a record deal, she's still working with good producers, even her videos are still really good quality.
Japan is just moving in a very different direction right now as opposed to, like the article stated, the early 2000's.
Of course if she went overseas I'd still support her, but I think that would send more of a message that it's impossible to succeed in this market if you don't look Asian and therefore you should stop trying.
I think what she needs is better tie ins and tv appearances. But for all we know, she could be very happy with what she has right now. Some artists prefer a more intimate connection to their fans.
I think the fact that she embraces both sides of the spectrum is what makes her special.
