It was so different back then. The Ayu of A BEST was an Ayu you wanted to relate to. When you listened to her music you thought she was someone you knew, maybe she reminded you of someone. When she released "A BEST" and there were additional new stuff that was never announced it was like an easter egg you treasured. When you listened "I am..." all the way through and heard "flower garden" you were given closure, hope, and a sense that this bat-crazy workaholic is not gonna stop. Good luck predicting her next release! And as we all know, "flower garden" was never given an extended cut. Even Connected's extended mix was just an addition to a SINGLE.
I remember "Memorial address" being PERFECT. The pv's were exceptional the album pictures were gorgeous, the songs were fantastic. I remember people fuming over provocative "Because of You", confused and happy (Ayu-wolf transformation ftw!) about "ANGEL'S SONG", and of course the tragic "Memorial address". Yes, there were only 3 new songs, but everything was executed on point, and the sales reflect that. That's the gold standard mini-album imo.
Now we just see a 30+ year old blonde lady prancing around and giggling over guys like a teenager. Her fanbase has aged and she needs to move on with it. Imagine if Madonna made an album "Reborn Virgin". People would be like lady GTFO, we weren't born yesterday.
Ayu needs a break. Travel. Explore. Pull a Brangelina and volunteer and see what real tragedy is. Do a marathon for a good cause. She's been well respected and has the hearts of Japan (and Asia) and she could really make a difference if she tried again.
