Both of those fit the word GUILTY nicely though. Guilt over letting a relationship you nurtured for 7 years finish, guilt that she was absorbed in the breakup that she couldnt' stop that took away chances to be with her friend? It's a pretty sad situation all around actually...
I never heard the story about the fan death, or I've forgotten the story. That's pretty sad as well
