I really think that this is the best way to handle things. You only live once so use everything you have on hand as long as you can. Some day you are dead and what use have sealed CDs or never used T-Shirts or merchandise in general to you then?
I am not a collector of anything right now but during my childhood I bought a lot of Pokémon merchandise and barely used anything of it to have it remain in perfect condition. In fact that was it what made me sell everything in the end. All the expensive stuff I bought, perfectly displayed in my shelves, had no real use for me after all and as I did not dare open things and play with it I decided to get my money back xD
