I remember "Sakura DROPS" being one of the first Japanese songs I had heard and one of the first Japanese Music Videos I had seen and thought, "Wow. So this is what Japanese music looks and sounds like then."
Then I listened and watched some more stuff from other artists and realized no. That was just Utada's uniqueness and nobody else sounded like her or her music or was making music videos like she was. Everyone else was just as dry and thirsty as anything else anywhere else.
I've told this story before but it warranted repeating.
