Sakurai Sho to host 12-hour live music special first program in the history of NTV

On April 24th it was revealed that Arashi member, Sakurai Sho (31) will serve as main host of a special program as part of NTV’s 60th Anniversary since broadcasting. The said program is entitled “THE MUSIC DAY Ongaku no Chikara”, it’ll be broadcasted on July 6th and will last a total of 12 hours for the first time in history. Sakurai commented, “I will try my best without getting crushed by the weight of the billboard and the title of this special program for their 60th Anniversary. I’d like to continue to give my utmost effort and serve them firmly in this important task!”.

The show will offer a look back in life and eras through music which is sometimes able to heal, give power and evoke hope, “An entertainment program similar to the large-scaled ’24hr TV’ comes in second as a brand new music festival”. This show will become an annual regular starting this year.

With an unprecedented 12 hours of live broadcast, this is the most airtime for any music program in Japanese history. So far, the longest music program in NTV was broadcasted in December 2008 and December 2009 with “Best Artist”, both of them lasted 3 hours and 48 minutes. In other stations, with data collected since 1987, TBS broadcasted “Bokura no Hi” for 7 hours and 40 minutes in July 2011. NTV plans on taking the first place with almost 5 more hours.

Sakurai has been active in many aspects as an artist, actor and caster. As for his activities with Arashi, he is scheduled to serve as main personality of this years’ “24hr Television” for the second year in a row. Sakurai now has also a big responsibility for this summer to take care of.

“Summer! Music Special! Main host!, I was already surprised by all of this but then added to the 12 hours of continous broadcast, I feel a little skeptical”, he expressed his surprise. “Speaking of the power of music, I want the audience to feel embraced by a history of 60 years”, he hoped.

The theme of this year is “Materpieces that encouraged Japanese people”. On the home page of the show, the audience can request songs they want to listen as part of the theme of the show, they will be chosen and introduced during the live show.

This special will also present VTR and archived footage of the past 60 years, in addition to gorgeous artists performing in the main venue Makuhari Messe in Chiba. Everything will be broadcasted live all over the country.

Celebrations will not end on this day, the said program will be followed the very next day (July 7th) with a live event in the same venue, “THE MUSIC DAY LIVE” to be presented by “ZERO” where “NEWS ZERO” caster Murao Nobutaka and Kiritani Mirei will serve as moderators. Some of the performers will be; ayaka, Angela Aki, Suga Shikao, flumpool, Miyazawa Kazufumi (THE BOOM). In addition, Inoue Akira (Keyboard), Matsubara Masaki (Guitar), Bakabon Suzuki (Bass), Muraishi Masayuki (Drums), Miyamoto Emiri (Violin) will form the “ZERO BAND”.

Tickets general sale will start on June 8th. We’ll get to enjoy the ‘power of music’ for 2 consecutive days.

Arashi & KAT-TUN win injunction against unauthorised publishers

On April 26th, Tokyo District Court ordered a selling injunction and a payment of 54 million yen as compensation for damage and prejudice from Earls Publishers. In the judgment in defense of Johnny’s groups “Arashi” and “KAT-TUN” for publishing an photobook using unauthorised pictures of the groups and their members. They can either pay the said compensation or dispose all their stock. This was communicated by the lawyers of Johnny’s Jimusho.

The order is not only for the recent edition of the photobook entitled, “Complete Treasure Photo File” but all 12 previous books under the same publisher.

Lawyers commented, “The orders the disposal of their stock and their existence as a violation of publicity rights. This shows appreciation for the rights of our talents. It’s a landmark decision to make clear that these acts of selling unauthorised photos are not allowed”.
