I think he's dropping the full album this summer, but I'm not sure. It seems like he's releasing a new MV/song every other week though (not that I'm complaining). He just released a snippet of 'I like to party' and it sounds ahhhmahhzing.
Regarding 2NE1 - I agree, if it's a mini-album I will be greatly disappointed.
If you think about it this way......G-Dragon revealed that Big Bang will be back in August with another album. If they drop their album before 2NE1's next album, it will look
extremely bad on YGE's part.
I mean, 2NE1's last full-length album was released before Big Bang's 'Alive' album and......well....Big Bang's 'Tonight' album also, so if the boys release another album before 2NE1 it will be a good 3 years since 2NE1 has released a full-length album. I'm not counting 'Collection' here as it was basically recycled material only in Japanese and with one new song and technically speaking, it
has been 3 years since 2NE1's last full-length album because their last release was a mini-album.
Sorry for the rant, but I was looking at their discography earlier today and came to this realization and then became frustrated haha.
I
know that they will have an album out before Big Bang's in August. If they don't it will be a) humiliating for the company and b) it will hurt 2NE1's popularity and (potentially) their sales. It doesn't really help that they made that public statement that they would not be participating in variety shows anymore. I understand why they don't want to, but when they do stuff like that, they essentially completely fall off the map and don't have any exposure to fill the void in between album releases.
On the other hand - who knows - maybe that's a good thing. It has certainly worked with Utada over the years (my other bias) as the disappearance-and-mysteriously resurfacing thing has seemed to draw fans to her rather than push fans away.
With 2NE1, however, it's different. I think it's mostly because of the K-Pop culture in which groups seem to put something out every so often (even if it's individual members putting something out in the groups' off period).
I know we've said it time and time again, but I also believe that the frustration stems from these "supposed" release dates for new material and then nothing comes from it. I'm not going to go back and count but I know of at
least three times (if not more) where YG has announced a comeback date for 2NE1 and then we've either gotten no explanation for no releases or the excuse of "it's not ready yet".
Well maybe if 2NE1 would stop gallivanting around the country and performing with washed-up rappers they would have more time.
I just feel like it's a 'Boy who cried wolf' situation and when they give us the next release date, no one will believe them and the presales will be damaged (yet again, who knows...).
I knew this post was going to be long.....haha. I just wonder what goes on over there at YG concerning 2NE1. Do they think that two releases with Will.i.am that only feature two members of 2NE1 will tide us over?
Or do they think that 'I love you' had enough staying power to last us all these 10 months? (Which - for me - it didn't. I actually forgot about it until they performed it at the NYE show, and then forgot about it again until I realized today that in 2 months/2days it would be the first year anniversary of that song).
I mean....why would you create a whole new concept, release promotional ads and change up the girls style for one new song and then have nothing to do with 2NE1 for almost an entire year?
I know YG artists have said that YG allows them to work on their own schedule, but for heaven's sake. You know it's pretty bad when YG Ladies' posts are all filled with news about Bom's new nail art, or Minji spotting a rainbow, or Dara getting ready to eat some sushi or CL travelling to Europe -
yet again - for some fashion show.

I'm starting to think that - mentally - I should just act like they're pulling a Utada and are on an extended hiatus.
