I don't think Ayu was ever directly involved in the drug bust, was she? I think she was only rumored to have used drugs and police was keeping tabs on her.
On the other hand, Ayu's (then?) best friend, Mika Noguchi, is kind of shady. She was close friends with Oshio Manabu, notorious bad boy and celeb delinquent, and she rented/borrowed one of her apartments to him. All of those things came to light because Oshio was partying there one night with a hostess and the hostess OD'd and died. I have also heard LOTS of rumors she has REALLY close ties to the Yakuza (but then again, who doesn't? Everyone in AVEX surely does).

Tomomi Kahala was a huge mass in the 90s but she made a successful comeback and everyone in Japan seems to be praising her. It's no secret she was an addict and totally crazy but she's looking healthy nowadays and is even singing really well (when she didn't sing at all back in her peak).
