You know, I think it's weird, too, but I wonder if it's not simply social pressure--somewhat ironic, given that her partner is assumedly American (?). But still, almost every single Japanese girl I know in her
twenties is sweating heavily about the prospect of getting married ASAP. Men as well, actually. :-/
