I don't think it's that bad to announce you are retiring than to just fade away, mostly because if she happens to still have any fans, at least they won't be waiting for any more stuff from her. However, I do agree it's weird to announce retirement at 29yo. Sounds like a lazy bum lol
Was she ever more famous than kuu at any point though? I have my doubts. I liked her day after tomorrow songs days but they were regular JPOP, not sure if she was very famous those days because I was so hardcore into JPOP that I would listen to every single band/group/artist avex would pop up with lol The music video with the tranvestites was quite shocking and audacios for me back then though lol maybe she's gonna host that kind of club lol I think I liked day after tomorrow songs more than kuu's songs back then, but then I wasn't really into RnB, so kuu was too experimental for me, but my tastes matured as kuu got to release more and more stuff.

I believe she was a 2nd tier star for a while before Koda was big, so, she wasn't big, but at least she was selling music, while her sister wasn't...
And jpop female stars are kind of expected to retire early, aren't they? Hikki said more than once she had no intention to be a musician once she hit 30, and a lot of idols from girlgroups and even some solo singers like Rins Aiuchi retired after 10 years on the business or so... Even Ayu fans over here are always looking for reasons to point how old she is and wishing she should just retire.
