If anything, I think the fact that so many fans who care about and admire Ayu believe/mention this is VERY telling. Especially since this really isn't a theory fans tend to throw around lightly about their favorite artists.
If this many people are losing interest for the same reason, then it's a very real possibility there's truth there.
