Originally, Hamasaki did not dream of being a singer. She wasn't even sure that she was good at singing, a sentiment she expressed in a letter written to her producer at the time. Her producer reassured her by saying that she sang as well as she expressed her feelings. This talent for writing would prove useful as she wrote her own lyrics with a poetic touch rarely matched by her peers.

Despite her initial trepidation, the singer's career quickly took off. Hamasaki's fame skyrocketed, and her image became larger than life. The singer was dumbfounded by her sudden fame. "The real me was so different," she expressed. The discrepancy between the person the public saw and the person she saw in the mirror led her to write songs such as "SEASONS" and "M".

Regarding her live performances, Hamasaki shared that she doesn't put together concerts, but rather shows. The singer combines touching ballads, upbeat dance song, and elaborate costumes to create an unforgettable experience for the audience.
