well, this varies greatly from country to country. Here they will tax you for waaaay less than 80 USD, and the gift option makes no difference as far as my experiences go, just the value.
Where I'm from the only sure way I've found to avoid taxes is if the parcel items are described as books, since books are free of taxes here.
