I would say any releases are purchosed by fans of the artists. Physical copies are for collectors and people looking for music in HQ. People who listening only at their smartphones/tablets/laptops don't really bother to buy physical releases because they'd finish ripped and uploaded to the cloud anyway.
I was skeptic about streaming release before physical but it's possible this way of promoting it's that bad. I guess some people could give it a listening on AVA and if they liked it they may buy a copy now.
