Unfortunately, I think Japanese people would still hate her. Even if she was a very quiet person, if she had still married foreigners and divorced them, the media would bash every single move of hers. Also, ageing is a sin for women in general, especially if you're an artist/entertainer.

I think the only way for most people to like her would be if she had retired after her 10th anniversary, got married to Nagase, became a housewife and stayed at home taking care of their three beautiful children.
