KinKi Kids Beats B'z Oricon Record With "The Red Light"
KinKi Kids' latest single "The Red Light" sold 200,257 copies during its first week of sales, place it on top of Oricon's weekly singles chart.
With the group's latest #1 hit, KinKi Kids has topped Oricon's weekly single chart every year between 1997 - 2017. This amounts to 21 consecutive years with a #1 hit, a new record for the Oricon chart.
The previous holder of this record for B'z. The band had a #1 single on the chart every year between 1997 - 2009, which amounted to 20 consecutive years.
KinKi Kids' recording-setting single comes as the future of the group is up in the air. Group member Tsuyoshi Domoto was hospitalised for sudden deafness last month, and remains unable to resume activities due to his condition.
