This is exactly right. I might make an exception for Madonna though. As for Ayu it wasn't very obvious until the late 2000s or 2010s. When I was a new fan in the 2000s it was always a curiosity of mine if Ayu supported lgbt or not. In fact I was surprised to see other lgbt fans online because I thought Ayu's music didn't seem like something that would broadly appeal to that demographic. I think Ayu has one of the most diverse fan bases. She reaches everyone.
