that's so true! I was thinking the same seeing all the Namie retirement celebration.
I like Namie as a performer, I think she is incredibly beautiful and I respect her as a celebrity but musically I always considered her more as a performer than a complete artist.
I like some of Namie songs (mainly Best Fiction songs) but honestly I always considered them a polished product while Ayu's songs have an earth.
All this to say that the Japanese public has been deeply unfair towards Ayu,
I think the public has never forgiven the fact that she had never hidden his diva life while Namie on the contrary has always been very reserved.
