This was (most likely) after she dropped out. She did many photoshoots (there's even a photobook and VHS tape) in swimwear, in addition to performing at Idol on Stage and doing all those acting gigs. Ayu really didn't like that time, she said she hated acting because it's tiring and I recall her saying that doing those photoshoots was awful. She basically did that because that's what her agency wanted her to do and she would have had no place to live at if she left.
She probably just didn't want to bring up her pre-debut time.
