Matsumoto Jun lands the lead role in 2023 NHK Taiga drama

It's been announced that Matsumoto Jun will be playing the lead role in the NHK Taiga drama 'Dousuru Ieyasu' to air in 2023.
'Dousuru Ieyasu' is the 62nd NHK Taiga drama and will depict the life of Tokugawa Ieyasu. Its script will be written by Kosawa Ryota, who won the Screenplay of the Year Award for movie 'ALWAYS: Sanchome no Yuuhi' at the Japan Academy Prize, and is also known for writing the scripts for dramas 'Date ~Koi to wa Donna Monokashira~' and 'Confidence Man JP.'
Matsumoto accepted the offer for his first lead role in a Taiga drama last November. He stated that this came at a perfect timing as Arashi was going on hiatus and he was looking for a new adventure. On working with Kosawa, he commented, "Kosawa-san's image of Ieyasu is very original. I hope to create a new Ieyasu together that's different from before."
