There are some things that downgrade quality, even in true 1080p videos, just like the digital inserting of grain, very intense red lights (I think they resolved that in x265, but it was a big problem in x264 encoded videos, which is the codec used on HD Blu-Rays) and those ribbons / laminated papers they throw in the end of some concerts.
