I am homosexual, but i do not believe that Ayu is a part of gay culture.... ;| that's a rather strange statement. but, i do know many other homosexual (men) who enjoy Ayu a lot... but that doesn't mean that all men who like Ayu are homosexual. it just depends on what you like!
