well. ayu did include drag queens in the "real me" pv. ^.^ but that was more of a statement of "what exactly is a woman?" and kind of trying to break female stereotypes.
I happen to be gay, and love ayu, but I don't consider her a gay icon.
there are artists who I consider gay icons, and are considered so by the general public:
Madonna
Cher
Elton John
Tori Amos
Sarah McLachlan
The Indigo Girls
Jewel
Rufus Wainwright
and many others.
but of course, anyone can like any of these artists. but it is a known fact that all of them have a huge gay fanbase, and for some of them, the majority of their fanbase is probably gay.
but of course I agree with all of you who say stereotypes and generalizations are bad; however, I don't believe the intention of this thread was to generalize or sterotype anyone. I believe it was more out of curiosity of whether ayu's gay fanbase is large enough to call her a "gay icon." maybe it just could've been worded better? ^.^'
but i'm really happy to see so many of you are open-minded and not resorting to any kind of name-calling or anger. that's really refreshing. lol anyway.
so there you have it. my final answer.
