The way I interpret it:
Past Ayu sees Present Ayu and wants to pursue her. Past Ayu chases Present Ayu. Present Ayu seems to run from her. (Many people seem to do this when you think about it - running from their past, etc.)
At the top of the stairs, the roles become reversed when Present Ayu turns around and realizes that she needs to come to terms with her Past self. However, Past Ayu becomes scared/intimidated/whatever and runs away.
Finally, in the bar, Present Ayu meets with Past Ayu.
