I entirely agree on The Arcade Fire - Funeral is a brilliant album. The songs Ash recommended are great as well (I've always been particularly fond of 'Neighbourhood #3 - Power Out'). Definitely worth checking out. Bloc Party is cool, but it's sad that they're all the hype right now here. Every once in a while a band comes out and all of a sudden everybody likes them, that's how it is here. =/ I mean, they're great, really, haha, but even all the kids who normally only like mainstream suddenly fall for Bloc Party as well. That's so wrong.
I've been checking out some 'new' stuff out recently (new to me, that is) and came across some awesome bands and albums. A few recommendations:
Iron & Wine - Our Endless Numbered Days; Beautiful acoustic music, very subtle and low-key but really great.

Galaxie 500 - Today; Wow. Shoegazerish kind of art-rock. Exceptional.

Neutral Milk Hotel - In The Aeroplane Over The Sea; f00k yes. Rock + art-rock + shoegaze + punk-rock and whatever, this is awesome.

The Polyphonic Spree - Together We're Heavy; kind of like prog-rock, but ten times better. Upbeat, too. Great album.
