Lyrics: fairyland [live performance ver.]

The following translation was taken from the subtitles from a recent live performance.

Title: fairland [live performance ver.]
Artist: Hamasaki Ayumi
Lyrics: ayumi hamasaki
Music: tasuku

They didn't understand the meaning of growing up
But where are that girl and that guy of long ago
Aiming to go these days?
They're walking, aren't they?

The dawn comes quickly these days
The scent of the wind has changed

As though longing for the past
As though waiting for something I have yet to see
The beat of my heart is speeding up
It's dear to me, yet a little painful

They set off to go the distance
Toward that ocean
Innocently
Breaking into grins
They ran through to the end
On that distant summer day

Those childish kids we were
Without any way of knowing
The future that waited before them
Still remain in my heart

They set off to go the distance
Toward that ocean
Innocently
Breaking into grins
They ran through to the end
On that distant summer day

No matter how many times we search
For what we found and then lost again
And repeat it over
The smiling face here told me
"We are here forever
In a very close place to you."

Hamasaki is talking of herself and another person as children who did not know the future that lie ahead of them. She is looking back on "them." When she says "they" and other third-person references, she is speaking of "あの頃の自分たち"--the two of them as they were at that time. And now, they are within her heart and whispering to her 'we're still here, very close to you.' It's a very beautiful lyric. I really enjoyed listening to this. ^^
