She quit school because people thought she was slow. She was embarassed of her deep coarse voice and spent lots of time pondering. So, by labeling her "slow", she was stuck and wouldn't be able to succeed much anyway.

Part of being a good writer is just that - doing things that seem natural and don't need more thought. We look at the greatest writers for their symbolism, and although we may overanalyze, their idea had to stem from somewhere, whether innate or accidental, its a part of being a great writer.

The truth of the matter is, that we don't know if Ayu has parts that are intended for a specific message or not. If the symbolism is, kudos to her. If it is not, at least it was interesting. There is no wrong answer. Furthermore, everyone has their own strengths. By intellectual conversation, I'm sure I could confuse her with biochemistry and such. But she will definitly know some things that would confuse me, too. I'm not only defending her, but I think everyone deserves to be looked at their bests.

And back on topic! Sorry for the long post. But I think the pv's meaning is just that although many summers are joyful, there will be some that are hard. And when it gets hard, your joyful memories of the past don't seem to really matter as much at the moment.
