She looked like a ridiculous Barbie doll to me at some events with that puffy hair. Yet I did not care since I enjoyed Ayu for her music and not for these tiny insignificant details. And she was insanely popular.

She has spent 7 years in the music industry. And yes people are probably bored of her, teens have grown up and probably a new generation is about. New artists are around, new genres are more popular, times have changed. You cannot expect her to stay on top forever. It's absolutely impossible. Yet she's still the Queen of Pop. In 2005 she has been the top female seller beating Mika with her NANA gimmicks, Ai with her rising fanbase, BoA (who everyone claimed she shall replace Ayu) and Kumi with her best album and all those singles. This is according to stzr3 @ AHO.

And also I must say that even if everyone claims how she's sinking blablabla...who did the Shinobi administration choose to sing their theme song? And who did that game choose as a singer to sing the opening and ending song? And why does the huge brand of Panasonic still hold her as a spokesewoman? And why was she chosen as the queen of ballads and scored in 6 out of 12 polls for female charm, etc? And also why is there a hall of fame for Ayu for the Best Jeanist Award? Also why does she perform more than any other artists in A-Nation and is the most visited artist in avex's websites? Honestly if she was losing her popularity she wouldn't get any of these sort of things.

I don't care if a million people love her or only five do. Sure it makes me happy when she hits #1 on Oricon but I still love her music nonetheless. I enjoy every single release of hers and have fun instead of whining how her career is sinking.

I think the problem is that many people love Ayu simply because she is popular and has got this queen status. As Impact has mentioned they put her on a pedestal and worship this "perfect" image of hers and when they discover she's not perfect or find a single which they do not like... they run off to chase the new trend like sheep.

Ayu has always worked hard to please her fans - she has had ear problems, emotional problems and she barely has a normal private life as we do with those tabloids posting rubbish about her. Most artists wouldn't give a fig about their fans like Ayu does. She even visited her fans when she recovered after she was ill during A-Nation. She has suffered so much just to make her fans happy and it does tick me off to hear people saying she should retire and leave simply because you hate one single song or because some stupid tabloid is claiming how so and so artist is gonna replace Ayu. Because I'm sure she'd feel hurt if she heard that after all the effort she has done in all these years. It's not the end of the world if she's not the queen anymore.
couldnt have said it better, but would've been way to lazy
