When I heard the song I imagined a tropical island because that's the image most would get with such a song. It might lack originality but I clearly do not think there are many other alternatives on summer songs with this type of theme.

"BLUE BIRD" is a pop song, not just a summer song. It doesn't have to take place in a beach. I could very much see Ayu on the streets with friends having fun, splashing people with water guns, Ayu singing in a karaoke bar, doing silly stuff... If she's going to be in a beach, she could have at least done something cooler like singing with her band barefoot.
Hummm, I remember a few weeks ago, I said: "I hope the PV doesn't take place in a tropical/exotic island or something like that!". And now it is.
