And you can't use fake licence plates for moving vehicles, even if it's for movie/video-making. (And really, even if they were fake, why Alabama, right?? California would be much "cooler", if you know what I mean, haha)
They definitely would not go to Alabama just to shoot something. That makes no sense that they would go there. And yes, there are such a thing as "prop" liscense plates - plus those cars were being pushed, not driven. If they are going for an American feel to the video, of course they are going to get the liscense plates to go with it. I used to work on the TV show American Dreams, which takes place in the 1960s and every tiny detail, even down to the liscense plates on the cars were recreated to look like 60s America.

Another thing is old fashioned Texaco stations like that really don't exist anymore(at least not in great shape like that.)

There are tons of Americans that live in Japan just to work on videos like this.

If this was indeed filmed in Japan, they did a good job of making it look American. Although it wouldn't suprise me if there were an old fashioned American cafe somewhere in Japan already.

The scene with them practicing the dance in the warehouse was def. Japan - it's got the Japanese exit sign over one of the doors.

Also the scene with all the cars and billboards and stuff was also Japan - they simply filmed on a strip of highway.
