Just to add something interesting here: Last time I was in Japan in my hotel room and ordered room service. I was watching Music Station when the food was delivered and Kattun was on. The Japanese waiter saw what I was watching and said point blank about Kamenashi : "That guy is gay." I asked if he was being serious and he said he was - that a lot of people "knew" that he was gay. I personally don't care one way or the other about someones sexuality, but thought that it was interesting. Make of it what you will

Hopefully one day it will be. Takuya Kimura managed to do it and become a father as well and the popularity of SMAP didn't suffer in the long run.

Well, if they are doing that stuff openly on stage - then it is planned to look that way. It's just simply fan service. Whether they actually are in private is another story.
