You hit it on the head. On the original bio written by Mr. Kaz for the first version of Ayu's official website, the "relative" (shown in kanji as an older male relative, like an uncle perhaps) was translated as "older brother" for the version of the bio that was put on ayu's official English site (which only lived until just after ayu-mi-x II was released for some reason). But various fan sites & sites like japan zone simply copied-and-pasted the bio from that site, and the "older brother" thing has been an object of confusion ever since.
