setsunai to me has some kind of pain attached.
Like, it's not sad in the sense so depressing, but it's really heavy on your heart.
I dont really cant explain in english...
It's frustrating(?) and sort of painful.
It's like a feeling like you can't do anything about it.
setsunai and natsukashii are often a pair.
Natsukashii is nostalgic feelings.
and kanashii is just plain sad... I dont feel like a pain in it.
Like your heart will explode or so... www
You can say kanashii when someone just takes your lollipop..
Or if the rain is coming down. etc.
setsunai is more.. a hurting feeling in the chest.
At least to me.
