Exclamation MP3 Lockdown Alert!!! IMPORTANT!!!

I have recently recieved news that sony has began searchning computers for mp3s. If there are any mp3s found on your computer there will be a $2000 fine. If you have mp3s on your computer and you are online, YOU are at risk. I myself am downloading an mp3 of no way to stay, however i will delete it as soon as I hear it or before I go online again. MP3 LOCKDOWN ALERT!

Im not trying to be mean or anything, but just because you have lots of mp3s doesn't mean they cant catch you. I think you have a greater chance of being caught. And you really don't need more than 30 mp3s! 6000? You need to buy some of those cds...

How can they track what you have? p2p programs? And if it's Sony of Japan, they can't actually search for mp3s here in the USA. They'd be invading privacy by searching people's PCs like that, and besides, if they were actually doing this, they'd have to sue nearly every person online who's ever DL'd an mp3, and we'd be talking about several million dollars... not even the RIAA can go after people like this.

Also, this isn't Ayu news...

This cannot be true. You are legally entitled to own mp3s if you own the actual CD. You are NOT breaking a law if you own the real thing, and have the mp3 on your computer.

I agree Picolo. However, sadly, SONY has the advantage. I beleive they got permission to do this. SONY owns american musics you know. To counter sue it would cost us more in the end.

By the way... do you have a source for your news?

Now... why would Sony, makers of mp3-players and such, decide to suddenly be against mp3s? I checked with Sony's site, as well as several news sites I visit, and there's no mention of what you said... sorry, but unless you post some credible source, I don't really believe this...

geez, where have you people been! Its been on the news a couple times, this whole mp3 lockdown things, they have been sueing 10 and 12 year olds and practically everyone 1000'ds of dollars. They interiviewed some of the familes that have had to pay the money and stuff. It has been going on for months and stuff. I think the japanese download community is safe though. I believe its only major american labels that are doing this. This has been on cnn and everything i dont know how noone could have not known lol

VERY doubtful.

1) Like Jose said, they wouldn't make mp3 players if they were against mp3s.

2) It's blatant invasion of privacy.

3) It would cost them millions to hack into individual computers one at a time to locate mp3s.

If it happens, the person being sued could easily counter sue for invasion of privacy and exploitation (due to the fact they provide mp3 players to the public.)

I'm going to jump on this and say it's definately not happening.

Plus, if they did sue, they could only sue for mp3s of artists on their record label. And that doesn't include Ayumi.

Are we still talking about the same Sony here? The same Sony that makes the PS2? The same Sony that makes the Walkman? It sounds more like the RIAA than Sony. I remember reading articles about 12 y/o kids getting sued by the RIAA , but there wasn't any mention of Sony in it. Again... where is the source for this news? Until then, I'm still not buying into this...
