Is Gackt bilingual??
I don't know much about Gackt, so when I saw "Moon Child", I was wondering if he spoke any other languages fluently other than Japanese. I believe he was speaking Taiwanese in "Moon Child". Anyway, he was sellin' it to me. I thought he spoke it very well. Does anyone know if he's bilingual, trilingual, or multilingual?

He can speak Japanese, Mandarin (Chinese), English for sure. But I think there is one more language left, propably Korean. He is really educated. BTW he can play on several instruments and he manages several martial arts! He's genius.

I think he's fluent in English, Japanese, Mandarin, and Korean. Well... I don't think he speaks Korean too well... He still had a heavy Japanese accent on it when he sings.

He can definitely get by conversationally in Mandarin but he always has an interpreter when he talks to Chinese press (so it's hard to pinpoint just how fluent he is). Although I hear he is fluent in English, one can hardly tell by some of his Engrish lyrics. Still, it's pretty impressive because I think he's self taught (?).

Gackt had said he can speak French, Mandarin Chinese, Korean, and English.
I've seen many people bashing his English lyrics and his pronounciation. But compared to other artists, his Englihs is very good. Especially now. (It was pretty bad before, byt December Love Song I found to be completely understandable.) Mandarin Chinese is what you hear him speak most often. If you have ever seen the clip where he speaks with Vivian Hsu, Vivian claims that he speaks very well. (And she should know as it is her native language.) Korean he must be fairly adept in seeing how many songs he has released in the language. And even if he does have an accent, I'm sure his Korean fans appreciate it very much. As for French... The only time I think I ever heard him speak it was in a very small phrase in a photo shoot clip(in Italy, I think.) But that was when I first started studying French and I couldn't make out what he said. (The accent was certainly there...) So, to answer the main question: Yes, Gackt is multi-lingual. How proficient he is in each language is another story. Probably proficient enough to effectively communicate in each, though I'm sure he still retains a heavy accent.

i saw the clip of him speaking to Vivian, he has a pretty good pronounciation, still awkward.. i tink he's like 0.5 bilingual.. not completely... his english is pretty bad..it's like Boa's english. They claim they can speak it, but they can only partially understand it and the english speaking world can only 0.25% of the time understand theirs. Heard him say Black Stone.. and i thought he had said "bad stay".

Gackt IS fluent in reading/writing English, but he can't speak very well. He does say something about ninja's in Moon Child and it cracked me up, cos I couldn't understand it.
Anyways .. he sounds really weird singing in Korean, but at least it's understandable to his fans.

Yeah he can speak a few langs (which have been mentioned by above entries), but indeed, he still carries a heavy japanese accent which may make it hard to understand.
As for chinese (since I'm a chinese), I gotta say he's pretty good at it. He wrote good (though a little weird and unusual as compared to the current chinese lyrics) lyrics in chinese version of juuni gatsu no love song. As far as I know, he mentioned before that he learns chinese from his chinese friends. All I can tell is that he really does enjoy learning new things esp languages wise- If I remember correctly, I read from somewhere that Gackt gave up learning cantonese because it was too tough for him.

For his "bad" english.. when he's singing in english, it sounds bad, but when he speaks, it sounds good. I think its not much proper to sing in "perfec english". In our country its the same. When someone handle english very good, he's not singing that good too. Because when you're singing in your native language and suddenly in perfect english, it sounds really funny
![]() So I think he wants to sing that way - that not so good way. It sounds better for Japaneses. What do you think? |
