Have Ayu's PVs took a large decline?
I've been realising this a lot lately, that Ayu's PVs seem to be lacking that something special. They seem like they've been rushed and not much effort has been put in, in my opinion.
Just little things such as having a noticeable storyline, and several different scenes and outfit changes, she doesn't seem to do that anymore. It upsets me to say that her PVs often bore me these days, where as they used to excite and captivate me. ![]() It seems to have been in the last 2-3 years this has been occuring in my opinion. Take PVs such as ourselves, my names WOMEN, STEP you, Mirrorcle World - they've all had a lot of effort and time and money put into every little aspect of the video. Now we get PVs like: Microphone - Ayu wasn't even in half of it and all she did was rock out Sunrise and Sunset (omfg!), MOON - biggest yawn ever Lady Dynamite - although one of the better PVs, it still lacked a lot and could have had so much more going on such as more scenes and outfits (don't) Leave me alone - I love the song but there needed to be more scenes, it's so cheap and there isn't much happening There are many more but that's just an idea. Whats everyone elses opinions? |

I think that just really recently her PVs haven't been too good. MOON is really bad, it's just one scene in a room with either her sitting on a couch or sitting in the ground. Pay attention, it's really true. It would have taken her & the crew zero effort to also record some scene on a balcony or outside, with her looking at the MOON, and it would've been so much better. So yes, that feels rushed and bad.
crossroad looks like it'll be the same boring and dull PV in a room. Sitting. In a room. For 5 minutes. Yay. Maybe that's the theme of the single trilogy! PVs with Ayu sitting in a room! I loved the PVs from NL, though, and RnR had some good ones too though I have a negative bias towards the album. BALLAD's PV is one of her best ever IMO. |

what about Sexy Little Things? yes, that was good, wasn't it? So basically.. Ayu mixes good PVs with bad PVs... and she's always done that.. If you think her PVs were good in the old days, then look at Daybreak.. I think most ppl would agree that wasn't exactly oscar-material either.. So... no, nothing changed.. we'll get good PVs and bad PVs =)

Well to a certain extent yes but personally for me I've always love most of her PVs and dislike others. They can't always spend a lot on PVs so yeah it's normal that other videos will suck xD

I'm pretty sure the one she has been shooting during this last week in LA is gonna be EPIC!!!!!

Ehm, not really. Maybe she doesn't have all that epic stuff in her suit-cases when she's recording a new PV in a foreign country. Didn't like Mirrorcle World (don't know what looks so expensive of an Ayu making some pirouettes in a red dress) at all.
Anyway, I like the last PV's, not including MOON. But I agree she had better stuff. Guess that BALLAD was her only greatest "not rushed" PV this year. I personally think her (miss)understood - Secret period were the years of the best video clips. But you haven't seen crossroad in full length. You don't know what you will see in blossom. So, yeah. Have some hope.

Not really. Compared to other world artists, the majority of her PVs are still above average. Sure has a few ones that are just supposed to be fun. Still I'd classify the majority of her PVs as good or amazing.

I do have hope. I'm not dissing her personally or anything, but I do think the quality has decreased a lot over the years.
I still love her of course. But I just wish she'd have like a burst of creativity or something. Me and my friend were watching her PVs and just think they have really declined. I agree that Secret and missunderstood were the best PV eras. |

hmmm..
I'm sure that the two new singles will have GREAT PVs.. i believe so tho.. and as for the last album RnRC's PVs..i still think most of the new PVs are GREAT.. except for Lady Dynamite that looks cheap, not the gay-ppl make it look cheap..just the scenes/themes they're using.. not really high standard one~ |

her best music video year for me is the I Am till Memorial Address era imo... and I definitely miss those years

oh well, i agree that all the latest PVs are boring and repeative.
Except Lady Dynamite and Microphone (an artist doesn't need to appear in all the lenght of the PV to make this PV beautiful) i cannot recall any other good and exciting PV..maybe You were..was nice but not an action PV at all.. Anyway ayu is on teh scene since 12 years ago and she's still releasing a lot of singles every year..remember that years ago it didn't happen that every single had at least 2 songs and every song followed by a PV... there was 1 single with A side with the PV and if we were lucky tehre was a B-side without PV. She's releasing so much works taht i believe she cannot afford high-budget PVs.

^ It seems there is one every month, ne? Kinda exhausting.
I, personally, love her recent PVs and really enjoy them as much as I do a lot of her older ones. I always enjoy seeing her latest PVs. MOON - I really loved it, the colours, the atmosphere, the emotions; it all suited the song. Microphone - One of my favourites because it's really cool. Lady Dynamite - really cool, it's feisty, it's different, it's great and I really enjoy it. Sunrise + Sunset - Perhaps I'm one of the few people that loved these two PVs; I think they're simple but really enjoyable and they suit both songs. (don't) Leave me alone - Personally not my favourite of her PVs but it IS cool and I like the meaning in it.

No.
Have you seen other artist's pvs?? They all keep on doing the same stuff as always or repeating themselves, or just plain copying western artists. In ayu's case, she seems to be in a more comfortable place as an artist, her works are a little bit more laid back, but they still as great as always... in their own meaningful way. For example, MOON. I seriously don't appreciate people who don't appreciate this pv. The pv itself is such a masterpiece. The fact that so much is said with so little, means a lot. Same with Don't look back. About Lady Dynamite's pv, its obvious it was going to be "out there" if Kazuyoshi was directing it, and I still enjoy it lol Its trashy but ayuish anyway. |

It's still a real mix....you can't call poker face and Depend on You masterpieces of storytelling (at least I don't think so lol)
It's a little unfair to call all her old PVs awesome vs all her new ones lame...... Semi-epic story PV: Endless Sorrow and BALLAD Random and lol!wtf PV: ANGEL'S SONG and Beautiful Fighters PV with little to no Ayu at all: Endless Sorrow and Microphone Visually dull PV: Daybreak and BORN TO BE... Generic dancing/singing in the sun PV: fairyland and Sunrise/Sunset Travelling PV: Depend on you and NEXT LEVEL "For the fans" PV: Humming 7/4 and Sunrise/Sunset Monochrome Effect: HEAVEN, Pride and Curtain Call Multi-PV drifting(!!!!!!!): Vogue/Far Away/SEASONS and glitter/fated I really think people underestimate nostalgia goggles when they think all of Ayu's older stuff is superior to the new. Days, BALLAD and MOON all looked gorgeous, Microphone has the feeling of a "new" alterna.....Ayu's PVs haven't dropped in quality, just that now she has so many of them I think we hold her to a higher standard than we would have 4-5 years ago! lol |

I realy dun mind Ayu not being inside most of the time. I mean, PVs like Microphone 's has an abstract concept in it so I appreciate that a lot and to me, that was an amazing PV. I've only been an Ayu fan for 5 years, I do feel like...sometimes it has a lot to do with the director. Her ballad PVs have taken a improvement in terms of plot and twists esp Ishii's works. While now, working with Masashi Muto and other old directors, Im beginning to see more thought in her PVs. MOON may focus on one scene too much hence people find its boring but for me, the thought is equally impt. She could of course pull of another STEP you, a PV showcasing styles, and yea, that is also a VISUALLY appleaing PV which is makes it a nice PV too.
I have to say, PVs like Sunset/Sunrise yea...low on budget. But we cant expect it to be perfect all the time. As for Kazu's PVs, its just his execution that is all over the place... |
