about win mx
i downloaded the program, win mx, and it found the song i was looking for but it is not working for me? Remote queue does this mean i have to stay on line and wait for my turn? Will I lose my spot if i logged out? Then it is a long wait if it says 199 in queue. Moreover, one says "10 of 10 available" but still it wont start download.
What other file sharing program you guys recommend I am looking for 4 ayumi songs in ayu-ro mix 2 Audience(Euro-power Mix) duty (POWER Mind Mix) , surreal(Time A Go-Go Mix) , and kanariya(Sweet Mix) Last edited by jiayulam; 30th November 2003 at 11:39 PM. |

WinMX is quite the tricky program to use. It's good for finding some rare files, but much of the time, you'll have to wait for quite a while for a download to start. I normally use DC++ to get my files. There's an Ayumi hub there which you can find many jpop songs with little to no wait! For an FAQ of DC++, you can check this thread.

Tips for WinMX
1.) The key to getting downloads on WinMX is that you share lots of files in return for downloads.
Most people (me included) will cancel and ban anyone trying to download who isn't sharing files. People will often jump you to the top of their queue if they are currently downloading from you (all this can be automated with MXMonitor). 2.) When searching, search for Japanese •lŤč‚ ‚ä‚Ý and ŔرT¨B as well as the English word Ayumi. Use the filesize to check if you already have an all-japanese-named file. 3.) Right-click a user who has any Ayu file and choose Browse, instead of relying on the Search window to find files of interest. 4.) Stay connected for days at a time and make sure "Auto find sources every 30 mins" is enabled. If you set fifty 60mb downloads going, after a day or two, you'll have half a dozen successfully downloaded/downloading. After a week downloads will be constant, averaging approx 1.2Gb/day on a standard 512k ADSL link. It took about 10 such one-week connections for me to get a fairly complete collection - 23Gb - of Ayu videos. What's great about WinMX is that unlike Kazaa (a) there's no ads/spyware and (b) it rewards fairness - the more Ayu you share, the more you will get. Oh, and yes, it does resume partly-downloaded files jiayulam. |

There, that didn't take long :-)
Duty (Power Mind Mix).mp3 I'm in some queues for the other two files you mentioned - will post links to them here when they've finished downloading. Edit: Thanks to someone called gene_victor, here you go: 10 - SURREAL (Time A Go-Go Mix).mp3 12 - kanariya (Sweet Mix).mp3 Last edited by LeButler; 30th November 2003 at 03:52 PM. |

winmx demands a lot of patience. If you´re patient and can wait you will surely get hold of pretty rare stuff. One good thing to do if you´re into rarities, hard to find stuff isbuilding your own collection of rare stuff. You can also try building a collection of pretty recent stuff. It's hard at first but if you get to do that it gets a lot easier for trading to most things in future. The longest queues like 199, 100 or something shouldn't really be bothered as they hardly ever get to start. You will have to have patience and research from time to time until you find another person with the file you want. Or you can try using the messaging system to contact the person and see if you can trade the file.

First and foremost thank you le butler & gene_victor!!!
I will give win mx another try since i still have the exe. ok, when i installed win mx it asked what folder i wanted to share and i selected my entire my music folder. So from what i am understanding, if no one downloads from me i could not download either. Could it be that i left my firewall active? because i cant send out files thru msn messenger if i left it on, only when turned off i could. could this be the reason?

You don't have to share anything to download a file. What everyone else was essentially saying was that your chances of getting a download started from someone with a large queue is much higher if you share some useful/rare files, vs. if you were sharing nothing. It's kind of like a trade: someone has something you want, and you have something they want.
