Best-selling artistis in 2005

ORICON STYLE published the list of the artists who sold more from 11/2004 to 11/2005. The list doesn't have the total sales but how much money the artist made.

Ayumi Hamasaki is not the artist who made more money for AVEX. AVEX #1 artist is, surprise surprise, Koda Kumi. The list is only until november so the 12 singls have nothing to do with her sales, it was basically from her 'Best ~First Things~'.

BoA is so high on the list (higher than Ai Otsuka) because of her Best of Soul, I guess.

Ai Otsuka is low on the list, but her studio albums sell more than BoA and Koda Kumi studio albums and her singles too [PLANETARIUM sold more than YOU].

Mika Nakashima would probably be higher on the list if her BEST was counted.

And Ayumi is doing very well, better than big names like EXILE, Mr. Children, Hirai Ken and Southern All Stars.

The list:
01. ORANGE RANGE - 143,511
02. Ketsumeishi - 84,049
03. Koda Kumi - 76,349
04. Ayumi Hamasaki - 69,083
05. Southern All Stars - 67,964
06. EXILE - 66,410
07. Mr. Children - 64,088
08. Hirai Ken - 56,032
09. BoA - 45,971
10. KinKi Kids - 43,495
11. Yuzu - 38,915
12. Ai Otsuka - 38,764
13. TO -digest- (western music) - 38,394
14. Def Tech - 31,435
15. Nakashima Mika - 29,609
16. B'z - 27,331
17. Porno Graffitti - 26,012
18. UMK -digest- (western music) - 25,761
19. SMAP - 25,173
20. Oda Kazumasa - 25,011
21. L'Arc~en~Ciel - 24,784
22. GLAY - 22,617
23. DREAMS COME TRUE - 22,600
24. O-ZONE - 21,365
25. Hirahara Ayaka - 20,952
26. Destiny's Child - 20,686
27. aiko - 19,909
28. RIP - SLYME 19,903
29. THE YELLOW MONKEY - 19,026
30. Do As Infinity - 18,459

edit: OK, so let me correct myself: the best-selling studio artist besides Ayu is NOT Ai, it is BoA. Valenti sold over a million, Love & Honesty over 800k and Ai best-selling album sold a little over 600k.

BUT, right now, Ai is selling MUCH MORE than BoA. Actually, Ai is the second best-selling female artist in singles, only after Ayu, so her next album will probably sell more than BoA's next album.

Well she did manage to score good enough especially since two artists had a best of album.

I'm confused by the ranking of Koda because her Best album sold over a million, but so did Ayu's My Story, so that should have evened them out right there and then Ayu's singles sold more than Koda's. Am I missing some other piece of revenue that Koda got this year or did her Best album actually sell closer to 2 million?

I tought it was weird too. Ayu sold over 900k singles and 1,1 million albums, so, at least, 2 million copies (singles+albums) and I don't know if they count DVD sales. Koda sold 1,4 million from her best album but her SECRET album was also released this year and her singles sold well, so I guess she would have sold over 2 million, too.

Ayu did pretty good I think, considering how some people complained about the songs on the singles this year...and MY STORY was not everyone's fav album...

Well, Koda Kumi did release 2 albums that did well this year. I'm not surprise that she did a little better than Ayu. But her sells aren't nearly as high as Ayu's. Ayu had three singles this year go well over 300k and B&D isn't doing too bad seeing as it's already gone over 100k. Plus MY STORY sold over a million copies.

Anyway, Ayu is doing extremely well. She's sold more than a lot of other big artists.

yep...koda kumi released 2 albums compared to ayu's 1 [+1 "MY STORY Classical"] so even tho ayu has sold more in singles, albums cost more money thus koda kumi is on top.

*Petit*: this is a list of how much money the artist raked in for the company. so all the sales of the cd's X the price.

andre2907: of course PLANETARIUM has sold more then "you", "you" has only been released a little less than 2 wks.

Oh, true, I wasn't clear :S. What I meant was the first week sales of Planetarium were higher [I think it sold 100k].

Whoa, interesting.
It seems like Koda Kumi's popularity is going up from last Nov. until last month.
Mika and Laruku scored low.. but I'm happy they're on the list SOMEWHERE, rather than being not on the list at all
Hurray for AYU! #4 is still great

I congratulate Ku on a job well done. I've liked her for a long time now, and am happy to see her doing so well. Of course, Ayu is still my favorite, but Ku does get kudos for being such a hard worker. (As if 12 singles in a row with PVs isn't hard work!)

Does anybody know how much MY STORY Classical sold?
