A critique on globe’s PV “wanna Be A Dreammaker.”

Recently I’ve been obsessed with globe’s video for “wanna Be A Dreammaker.” The video shows Yamada in a room by her self smoking and drinking, with Panther and Komuro outside. The video features three insects, the cicada, the spider and the moth.

The cicada symbolizes death and rebirth. Cicada burry themselves or cling to trees in cocoons and in the summer they come out of their cocoons and soon die. You can a cicada throughout the song, which leaves the impression that the “dead” are still trying to be heard. The cicada are popular insects and people enjoy listening to their “singing.” I’ve found several websites with MP3’s of cicada singing. Also notice the cicada on the radio is dead and not moving.

The spider in the jar most likely represents danger or sin. The spider or sin is kept locked up in the jar or “inside oneself.” Later on it is released from the jar. Yamada even plays with the jar while the spider is inside, almost as if she’s toying with the idea of sinning.

Sinning plays a bigger role in the video and the lyrics. Smoking is implied as something bad and she smoke sin video and smoking is referred to in the lyrics. “Do you have a reason for smoking? You shouldn't blame yourself for your sins.” Also the fake hand [which I figure is either a drawing reference or a ring holder] is propped with a cigarette. Yamada also takes a drink of what is assumed to be alcohol in a glass.

The moth in the video symbolizes freedom and possibly people. The moth is free to fly anywhere but it’s [possibly unknowingly] attracted to warmth and light which is also symbolic of a lover and love.

The apartment seems to symbolize a sad state or a haze. It’s sad and you don’t really know what’s outside [possibly happyness].

Near the end of the video after singing “Ah I miss you, I miss you so much” the skylight falls. When Yamada walks across the broken glass, it’s almost as if it snaps her out of a the dazed, psychotic trance. This pain could symbolize the pain of love and breaking up, and that after she felt the pain of breaking up she realized that maybe the relationship she was in, isn’t worth it and leaves the apartment room [or the relationship].

If anyone else has any ideas or something they'd like to say about the video please say so. I'm not 100% sure if I interpreted the video correctly.

I think your interpretation of the video is excellent!!! I find that the part of walking across the glass extremely frightening. Perhaps it has to do with pain and the expressionless face that KEIKO wore. Generally, I really love the song very much and sometimes I wonder how KEIKO sings "Wanna be a Dreammaker" in that high pitch.

It sounds kind of computer generated? Like they just sped up the vocal. I could be wrong though Yamada has a really talented voice, so who knows.
