Dai Nagao or Ryo Owatari.

i was flipping thru my booklets one night reading the credits, and noticed under "Special Thanks" in the I Am booklet, it sayd, Ryo Owatari A.k.A Do As Infinity. did he help compose with Dai Nagao? what did he contribute to the album? his nam,e doesnt appear in any other booklets i dont think. i need to look again.

It was 'Daybreak' only that he co-wrote with Ayumi. I think.
But I'm not sure if Dai Nagao co-wrote it as well. ><;

I've actually been trying to figure this out for ages. I always figured it was just Dai Nagao under the penname DAI when he wrote for other artists, but it could be that at least up until recently, Ryo Owatari was helping, and that it was mostly Ryo doing the DAI songwriting work on the I am... album. That's all i can think might be the case.

EDIT: Banfan, DAI has credit for co-writing Daybreak as well as Dearest, no more words, and flower garden on that album.

Well the thing is that until recent years, Do As Infinity has always listed "D.A.I" as their own lyricist & musician. Many assumed it was just Dai Nagao, when in fact some songs (eg. "AZAYAKANA HANA" on "GATES OF HEAVEN") was written solely by Ryo Owatari & some lyrics were written by someone other than the 3 members (for that reason, Do As Infinity has ALWAYS claimed "Do As Infinity is composed of the 3 members AND ALL SUPPORTERS). So that could also be the case for Ayu's songs. Although I think it's safe to say that Dai Nagao himself did most (if not all) of the compositions for other artists, & in this case, ya, Ryo probably helped out.

Yup, I knew that, but I was just mentioning that 'Daybreak' was the only Ryo one. I guess I worded it kind of weird. o_o;

But I'm really not sure now if it was just Dai doing those other ones. It's very likely that Ryo actually did some of them.

Well even before Do As Infinity was formed as a band, Nagao Dai wrote songs for other artists as D.A.I. I guess D.A.I., as a songwriting group, must have turned out like HAL where you're just not really sure WHO it is for any given song, out of the several people it could be. But it would make sense if Ryo Owatari was co-writing under the D.A.I. name after Do As Infinity was formed.

Wow, this is interesting! Anyone, when I read the booklet of my copy I remembered it saying 'Ryo Owatari from D.A.I.' O_O Maybe I misread it.
