How do cd's get leaked?
this is a question ive been wondering for a while. How do cd's get leaked.
Startin / Born To Be... got leaked yesterday 5 days before release. (miss)understood got leaked on christmas eve, about 8 days before release? and koda kumi's BEST ~second session~ got leaked today 4 days before release so how do the cd's get leaked in the first place |

Japanese CDs are placed on shelves for sale in Hong Kong as soon as they receive stock, which tends to be around 4 days before the official release date. (Sometimes at a slightly inflated price)
Not sure about the way English CDs get leaked though. |

some cd store owners is very kind to us to rip the cd to 192kbps *why such low quality? so we will buy the cd and hear HQ music!*
that's they're plan.. so the cds will make money too.. even if they rip it for peopel and share em! ^^

It often happens that it's promos that get sent out to the press that get ripped and are placed on the internet, way before the official release. I've also heard of instances where people hacked studio computers and got files from there (happened with the last Korn album, if I'm not mistaken). And then of course there's deliberate leaking, done by companies and artists theirselves who want to promote a new release.

I've heard with especially english 'release groups' they have insiders who have access to music before it's sold. there are many places where people could have access to unreleased music , working in different media , shpping , record stores etc...
I think the Hong Kong -explanation is the most reasonable one when it comes to jpop. I don't understand how someone is willing to take the risk just to rip some mp3's to release on the net. |

Thanks for the explainations. So Hong Kong gets the CDs before Japan releases. That's cool.

but what about chinese cds. it's rare to heard of leaking, it's hard to find c-pop songs before it's been released....even the pv too. the company seem to have good control.
except that somehow JJ's new cd got leak in china! how is that possible?

With American releases, it's someone in the company or someone who gets a copy of the finished work that leaks it for whatever reason. Nowadays, the industry has been trying to fight leaks by releasing fake tracks and doing other protective things. Radio stations and other music outlets often get full albums before they are released and will play them as a preview for their listeners. I'd say it's the same for Japan as well.

That's interesting to hear about. The most common one is on the shelves leak from Hong Kong I think.
