I'm not sad that Ayu is #8 because in terms of TOTAL SALES, Ayu will probably be #1 forever lol (considering she's at 50 million and the second place is 20 million less). The only person who can dethrone Ayu's total sales in the future will probably be Hikki but I doubt it will happen. (Unless she starts releasing an album every year for 10 years.

It is CD sales of album/singles released during 2016 only.

But why is ZARD #3? Umm...any recent releases? I thought the vocalist is long gone...

Bara no You ni Saite, Sakura no You ni Chitte (single): 15,005 (debuted at #6 on Oricon this week)
Shining Star (album) sold 14,908 in 2 weeks not sure about the rest

= 88,544

Shining Star likely sold another 2-4k in it's chart run. Please add her to the list!

Just kind of shocked? Not ayu being on the #1 spot but the highest is just at 295k? A couple of years you've to sell more than a million copies to get that #1 spot. Kind of interesting tbh haha.

^ Ayu hasn't been the number one in several years. Usually it's Namie, I believe, but so far this year she has only released singles.

I sometimes feel when Utada left the scene. Instead of it paving way for other Jpop soloists to blossom, solo Jpop just died lol.

It's really shocking how low sales can be to make a list like this considering it's the end of 2016 there's been enough time to have mega sales.

I know there's successful soloists but not like back in the day.

Anyways happy Miliyah and Ayumi are on this list. It's strange how low Miliyahs sales have been considering her success over the past decade. None of her studio albums have sold under 100,000 let alone under 20,000! Justice for Liberty. I was so conflicted with this album. But I keep going back. I listen to it more then Fantôme weirdly O_o
