Eeeh, the closest thing we've had to "raw" vocals lately at least in a recording is probably the You were... -Music Box Mix- vocal retake version. but that is kind of like... "the best circumstances there can be" when it comes to how her voice sounds. It sounded pretty good, and I have faith that she probably sounded close to that in the studio.

I don't think we'll ever actually get to hear her completely raw singing vocal in the near future unless she does some sort of a cappella thing again. She did pretty well during AT08 when she did that, so perhaps she can revive it with AT10.

Tv lives and that's it... "rawer" than that, only if she sings for you in person without a microphone, what is most likelly impossible to happen xD

I have to admit I've wondered the same thing...I hope we'll get something raw eventually.

her a cappella on AT08 wasn't bad at all, i think its raw enough, or not ?

i think they do edit her acapella on AT08.i think the most accurate should be TV LIVE.although it will go through audio mixer,but it won't help much in fine-tuning her voice.so,the most accurate is LIVE ,in my opinion

I actually think her raw singing voice would be much much better!
For example, when she sings a soft song that has very quiet music, she can sing it very well, and do that!
But she has trouble when the sound becomes loud, and she can't hear!

So I have a faith that her raw voice is still very good.

and it's still possible to get a raw vocal from a microphone.. when you first record something into an audio recording program like Adobe Audition -- nothing has been done to the vocals.. in any form, shape or way... the only thing you have done is sung into a microphone, which has transfered your voice into the program. Usually after your voice has been freshly recorded into the audio editing program of your choice it tends to sound completely different than what you are hearing when you sing.

Well, not pre-recorded lives like kouhaku are the closest to it... Her non-editing voice recordings never leaked (and I really doubt most of those found on internet are real)

Wasn't there a special A Best site at the time of the album with her raw vocals singing the songs of A BEST without the music of anything?

I'm pretty sure there is...I've heard them before.

It was VERY raw and unprocessed, and sometimes she sang in a different key... ahaha.

Most vocalists dont sound that amazing without the music, I think, but with Ayu, her acapella corner was really good in 2008!

Her Kouhaku Performances and also this years Msta Superlive was broadcasted in 5.1 ch, and if you will download original TS files(available on jpopsuki), then demux audiotrack into 6 mono-channels, the channel which is supposed to be front has the sound from the mic, so it's the closest to raw vocals without so loud music^^

There actually have been several times where I've asked myself "I wonder how much processing/editing Ayu's vocals actually go through?"
I'd really wish her raw vocals would leak... thx for the SEASONS link.
I don't know how pertinent it is, but for whatever reason, her vocals in the trance remix of July 1st sound kinda sloppier than in any other version, but maybe thats because the music covers it up... :/

yup I'm listening to it right now. There is a little part at the beginning of each song of Ayu singing a capella and then it goes into the song for a bit. It's quite nice actually though she's kind of more talk-singing sometimes. And I also agree her a capella corner at At 08 is really nice and I hope they didn't edit those...

You can hear ayu recording "A Song for XX" for A BEST in that 2004 NTV documentary, as well as her singing during concert practices.

And I think the old NTV documentary has a clip of her listening to the vocals she just put down for "Far away," so you can hear them before they've gone through any studio polish.

She also sings a teensy bit of "SURREAL" at the beginning of that PV's making-of video. Those three little bits would definitely be totally raw & unprocessed vocals.
