^ Gotta be the worst top 100 in the history of Japanese music. There is like no diversity in the music aside from a couple of artists. One of the reasons I got into Japanese music was that the charts were filled with diversity.

Guess it's time to move away from the mainstream...was kinda already away anyway.

My first thought: What? Sit Stay Wait Down at #99? It should be in top ten.
long long: meh 2nd thought: KinKi Kids at #47 and Girl's Generation at #46 save the list entering top 30: where the hell's Kuu and Gackt? #16 That was a good single. entering top 10: still no Kuu and Gackt ![]() what the hell? almost only akb48 in top 10, I never understand what people like about their songs :| no Kuu, no Gackt, no YFC, honestly :p I liked 4 singles out of those 100.... ok, I can understand Gackt doesn't sell that well nowadays but why '4Times' isn't there? Yesterday, I've been trying to come up with 10 best songs of 2011 and it was pretty hard, even with YFC's 'All my love' that comes out TODAY and songs from FIVE I hardly chose 10 songs.

Not surprising they aren't there, especially Gackt. Quote:
Anyways, I listened to All My Love in the store and was blown away. That is the best song he has released in years! And of course that means it has to be released with like 0 promotion so that one of the few great songs released this year gets no notice whatsoever. ![]() omg the amount of AKB48 in there ![]() That was fun to watch though, sadly not many Jpop songs really made an impression on me this year. Perfume's new album was easily my favorite. Last edited by TofuBunny; 28th December 2011 at 03:19 PM. |

Horrible, horrible year...and an especially horrible year for solo artists. All the solo artists I spotted in the top50 sang enka or extremely generic crap. Enka will always have a place in the charts though I'm surprised to see some so high, definitely deserved it more than all the AKB48 songs...
I'm happy to see Nana Mizuki made it in there even in this hard year, I was happy to see Namie and YUI even though those weren't very good singles imo and I'm happy to see L'arc~en~ciel, that's it.

These charts and the general state of mainstream music in Asia reflect something darker about the society itself imo...

Omg, that was so bad. It just got worse as it got closer and closer to the end, too. x_x
I guess this is why I never listen to jpop anymore. |

the sales from spots 200 to about 75-25 probably reflect the tastes of the general public more than the top 25 and onwards (with a few exceptions). So many of the songs in the top 100 aren't really selling music when they sell copies of discs as some fans buy many just to get a prize or for some other reason unrelated to the content. They could've sold figurines or comics or you nane it instead probably. The market for music cds has shrunk considerably even if there are still (first week sales) records to be had.

^ Yes, this is a big factor. These days a lot of people just simply don't buy music anymore. The few that do are usually idol fans. I actually have nothing against idol music, I LIKE Idol music and have probably been to Hello Project concerts as much as I have Ayumi. My problem with this years top 100 is the total and utter lack of variety; almost every song sounds the same and is very generic. Very few of these songs are going to be remembered even a year from now.
