Should I buy promo CDs?

there is a shop in hong kong which sells ayumi japanese promo cd singles at 55 hong kong dollars (about 7 american dollars). there is basically no difference between the retail single, except that the barcode is covered and the disc itself has a word "sample" on it. do you think i should buy them? i mean i am not collecting the promo cds, i just want the songs...am i better off buying the retail version singles or these promo versions?

They should be free, if you're a radiostation or a magazine. I just assume you are not one of those.

Promo CDs aren't supposed to make it to the 'general' market, which makes them special in a way. I love promo discs, and I would definitely pick up Ayu's if I came across them.

^ ur right, you normally get them only when you are someone that can review it or will play it for an audience somewhere, dj's get their promos as well (im not that lucky, I only receive promos form a few labels so far lol)

but i hv to say, ive bought a lot of promos as well and they all say 'not for sale' or 'not for resell' or something simular, and true, its promotional material, they shouldnt be sold (but then again, its kinda nice to hv a few promos, its like a collectors item hehe)

Or DJ, of course.

And indeed, I have bought/acquired-in-different-ways some promo CDs as well, which were all regularly sold at some stand in Rotterdam. However, it's illegal to sell them, period.

I would BUY them! I know, for one those are collectable and probably potentially worth way more than they are asking. Things like that are rare as the general public doesn't get ahold of stuff like that usually.

You could always sell them on ebay even...haha!

But if you're not collecting, I wouldn't worry about it unless they are cheaper or what not.

But still...I'd never be able to pass them up.

If you want the songs just buy the normal versions, promos doesn't come with booklets.

Promos are nice collectibles though, or buy it and rip some eBay overseas fanboy off with an inflated price tag. These promos are usually in 2nd hand stores, they're even cheaper than the retail ones.

And they're not promo to the public, it's to the DJs and blah blah. I've seen the RAINBOW promo, but I passed on it.

My younger brother got an Avex promo disc with Namie, Ayu, OLIVIA, hitomi, Koda Kumi etc and such on it though, since he just wanted the songs and it was cheap anyway.

Oh, these kinds. Aren't they identical to the retail versions other than the 'Sample' stamp? I have one of H/\L's "Single" CD+DVD like that, it's really your choice, there's not much difference then...

But then, the overseas retail version would cost around $70-85HKD in the cheapest store, so if you want to save a few bucks, get this then since it's $55HKD.
