BoA's finally #1 in Japan!!!

K and J- Pop Princess Kwon BoA may indeed have the number of JPOP Queen Ayumi Hamasaki. BoA's Greatest hits album "Best Of Soul" has indeed passed the million sales mark and still growing strong. BoA has put in heavy promotion for the album and it has paid off she managed to do secret lives, 2 mini concerts and tons of tv and radio shows reminding her fans who she was.
In celebration also BoA has become the 2st korean singer to go #1 in Japan making history once again debuting on the top of the oricon charts. She has also received a ferris wheel that plays her songs continously.... . BoA is finally regaining her ground in Japan with a new single due out March 30th with three new songs. BoA is indeed back to reign and quite possibly knock Ayu right off her golden crown. So BoA fans we gotta see what happens the next single will tell

didn't she not even sell over million for the first week which is less than Ayu's My Story.. all these news are written by korea newspapers.. GARBAGE! no offense or anything but they say her first week sales were 900,000... Oricon oricon.co.jp if you wanna check it yourself says 400,000... knockinf Ayu off is still a bit to go for Boa...

Because of a Best album? That's high unlikely that BoA will be rising anywhere, sorry to say that. Her latest releases were good for me but I don't see them as something extremely original or groundbreaking. I actually think her career has come to a plateau. If, to some people, ayu is declining, I would call someone blind if they failed to see that BoA is indeed running down a hill. Still love her though...gonna surpass ayu? most definitely not, unless she undergoes drastic changes which I highly doubt.

This is a Best album, meaning the sales r prolly better than original albums. BoA sold 489,067, according to Oricon. I admit it did sell better than My Story, but again, it was a Best album. If we're gonna compare, compare Best of Soul vs. A BeST

I think she's definitely reached a plateau, but I don't see her popularity declining (yet). She's only 18, and I bet you she will have a drastic change. I think she's getting sick of making the same kind of music and is going to make a big change. I agree that she won't pass Ayu, though.

Blar, she's never gonna make it unless she breaks out of the same pop mold she's made for herself. Maybe try more styles, and not infuse it with pop at the same time.

She'll never beat Ayu if she keeps going like she is, and yes. Compare BEST OF SOUL to A BEST and see what you get =P

please excuse the newbie quest. but doesn't Boa only sing korean? I dont understand why how she could have such an influence on japan. however, i dont understand japanese but I listen to ayu. Also I've seen Boa and ayu perform in the same concert, even at the same time. CAN she speak both languages?

BoA sings in both Korean and Japanese ... and soon Chinese .. and English rarely.

She's under AVEX for her Japan career and under SM Town for her Korean career.

Look at the music sales of all artists compared to when A Best came out though ... the purchases of cds is far less ... so if you're going to say that .. make sure its a good reason. More than likely it all would balance out. Ayu doesn't sell nearly as much as she use to because of people downloading and various things ... same goes for all artists.

For a Best Album? Gimme a break .. and it only had one new song? +__+ No. Don't even try me. Best Albums make me wanna throw up, even if it's by one of my favorite singers. I'd rather spend my money on something that's more worth buying.

Ever think of the people who can't afford all her albums and want something with her best songs on it? Maybe that's why they bought it? Or the fact that one version comes with a DVD .. just cause it isn't your thing doesn't mean you should be so negative right

I'm sorry to disappoint you but BoA will never knock down Ayu nor will she surpass her popularity. You should look back at Ayu's "A Best" album, it sold approximately 4 million copies. Of course, Boa's "Best of Soul" was recently released. As a first BEST album, it should sell well but i doubt it'll reach 2 million copies, believe me.

Look at how good sales were for all artists back when A Best came out .. you all throw this out whenever Ayu's single sales are low .. you say "oh the japanese music market is bad right now so .... is a good amount of sales"

The same goes for ALL artists.

Nor do I see why BoA being at #1 should be considered as knocking off Ayu, that's not really the best way to phrase it.

Okay, let's just say BoA's first BEST album sold well. But look back in the year 2004, and compare her singles to Ayu's. Despite the fact that the Japanese music industry is going downhill because of music downloading, Ayu still maintains her sales to about 400,000 copies. Whereas BoA, on the other hand, sold less.

You can't really compare a BEST album to an original album in Japan. BEST albums tend to sell more because they contain all the HIT songs in it and fans would like to listen to all the popular songs in just one CD. BoA has yet to gain the same popularity as Ayu, unless BoA's upcoming single sells more than 500,000 copies, then i would say BoA is getting more popular than she used to be.

I have a feeling it was the original post by DerrickRocks. I'm glad she got No. 1, on the dailys anyways. I bought the album myself too.

If you all don't want her to knock Ayu off nor be compared .. it goes both ways on the "don't compare them then" statement
