[SCAN] Ayu in the Finnish magazine, Demi
I hope I posted in the right section. Since these aren't news (at least to me).
Today, my sister got this Finnish girl's magazine, Demi, on the mail. The cover said that it has stuff about Japan (manga, music, movies). So I looked inside. Then the only pic of Ayu said "Ayumi Hamasaki is Japan's Britney Spears." I almost blew up. I send an e-mail to the Demi magazine, and asked them not to write such **** in the future. I was really angry. I hope they reply my e-mail today. Here is the scan of the page where Ayu was featured. Ayu is in the second page. ![]() Sorry the scan is poor, you can't see every text in it. But if you want to know what they say, then ask me. But everything that they said about Ayu was these sentence's: "Ayumi Hamasaki is Japan's Britney." "One of the most known Japanese female-pop-singers is Ayumi Hamasaki, who has been on the top of the charts for years with her hit-songs. Hamasaki has been titled the Japan's own Britney Spears."

wow..that's good..
i don't know why you should be angry about it... the magazine was not saying something bad about ayu just saying her of being the japanese's britney.. that's good i think.. even though ayu's not a dancing princess afterall.. it's even more better if they called ayu as the japanese's madonna.. |

To me, it isn't good if they talk about Ayu in Finland. Since only about 150 people of 5 million know her. And what I have seen, Finnish reporters just write some **** about Japanese stars/things. So that's why I don't want anyone to talk about her or any of my other favs.
And yes, I got angry because Britney is that kind of a ------... Ayu should never be compared to her. Britney is ugly, stupid and doesn't sell Ayu is nothing like her! And OMG. They said that manhwa is "south-korean manga"!! How stupid are they anyway!?

I guess they just mean in terms of popularity, but still, britney is trash, so personality and behaviour-wise, they're not much alike

Ayu IS the britney of Japan.... it's the best way for foreign people to understand how populair Ayu is in japan.

as soon as people hear "Ayu is the Britney of Japan" they'd think "not another teeny pop singer"

I personally think that the magazine is being very unsensitive when they write such stuffs......
If i didn't know Ayu before britney, i'd probably not listen to Ayu's songs now since i've something against britney..... |

wowwww..
such a group of britney's haters, i can see.. well.. maybe they got in wrong way to compare ayu with britney.. as britney was once internationally VERY FAMOUS back then with her "Baby one more time..." album.. they might just wanted to say that ayu's so popular outside of Japan too.. that's good, isn't it? |

sooo....what's the big deal here? it's just a comparison. like what AyUmIXx said, Britney was very much famous with her first album as well as her sophomore. she was the "it" girl everyone loved and adore, so naturally any top singer can be compared to her.

Cool that she was featured in Finland.
I also react on people who compare her to Britney, when I speak to people about Ayu they often ask "so she's sort of the Britney Spears of Japan, huh?" and I go like "more like the Madonna" with a brief explanation of why, because I think that's way closer. Thanks for the scan!

haha.. i dont think u shld get angry over this too.. lol.
because both of them are divas! britney was once very popular.. i dont think the comparison was with reference to the ****tish level of the both of them thought. its about how famous both are. so maybe its jus a "remark" rather than a "fact"? the articled said that "ayu was TITLED the britney spear's of japan". blame the pple who gave ayu this title.

It's nice that she was mentioned but not that she was compared to Britney. Ayu's creativity, longevity, fashion icon status and still successful career make her a different type of star. Madonna would have been a better choice. Ayu and Britney only have their age, late '90s/early '00s level of popularity and lack of Mariah-divaish voice in common, especially now that Ayu's songs have more rock influences.
Basically, IMO: the Britney of X should be a big star famous for sexiness and dancing (Ku for Japan), the Madonna of X should be a big star famous for changing styles and lasting success (Ayu for Japan). |

I don't know who could compare to Britney spreas. The japanese industry works in a totally different way, hardly ANY artists are one hit wonders, they usually release a few singles before hitting it big. No star ever went to number one without releasing a couple of singles first (with the exception of solo artists from bands, like maki goto, hyde etc.).
But I do think comparing ayumi to britney is more accurate than the comparison that was made with hikki (and that eventually made her mess upthe interview on CNN, poor girl... ) But ayumi has been involved in her career since day one, and I really don't know of any big icon popstars in the west that has done it like that. Perhaps shakira? |

I always get mad about the comparisons to Britney because the ONLY thing they have in common is they are the most known pop stars in their respective countries. Other than that, there is absolutely no similarity in anyway, shape, or form.
