Did Ayu win best selling asian artist? if so which year? i thnk it was in World Music Awards, and Jay Chou won last year or something....

I think she would have for 2001.... but I have no source. Japan is the biggest asian music industry and Ayu's been the best selling artist a few times I think. 2000? 2002?

I didn't know there was an official award for this...

Ayu won World's Best-Selling Asian Artist in 2001. Of course the rest of the years she has been on the top.

As in... She was among the best-sellers but maybe not the actual #1..

I thought Utada Hikaru was #1 in 2005 (or was that 2004). Which was totaly logical because Utada releases 2 albums (of which 1 was a best-album)

I think last year, Ayu won for World's Best-Selling Japan Artist @ the World Music Awards 2005.

Impossible. Jay Chou couldn't have gotten an award for best artist from Japan.

2005: Orange Range
2004: Hikaru Utada
2003: Ayumi Hamasaki
2002: Hikaru Utada
2001: Ayumi Hamasaki

I don't think they did "WORLD'S BEST SELLING JAPANESE ARTIST" prior to 2001.

Wasen't ayu also awarded for the year orange range won together with B'z, but both declined? Or was that a different award?

Something different. This is the World Music Awards. It is held in Monaco and the awards are presented based on sales only.
